Torch bearers of 2012

The new way to spend the monotonous Sunday morning (specially,in the recent urban Indian context which invariably includes the morning as leisure sleeping hours) as actor Aamir Khan makes his TV debut through Satyamev Jayate (the entire team pf SMJ -my first torch bearer, and the special thanks to brainchild of the show ,Aamir “the ace” Khan, for sure) ; a clear thumbs up from maximum populace. This weekly show show is actually  an individual and well planned social initiative, which represents the social issues and their possible solutions in its own way… but could anybody other than Aamir Khan could dare to take such a step, clearly  not an easy choice for the comfort loving elite,,,,,isn’t it? Right from its inception, it gathered some imposed reactions also ,as aparticular cadre is continuously trying its best that a few amendments could make the show impeccable. I think in these many things, people generally ignore the time constraint, which is a crucial factor…. It is next to impossible to consider all the necessary issues to include in that one hour show, with complete detail, therefore it must be treated as a well researched overview, of any given problem…which covers the careful case studies, national data, cause, ray of hope and possible solution……
I specially liked the manifestation of different issues with different levels of sensitivity, e.g. the very first female foeticide has made almost every viewer cry, the second case of child abuse episode was complimented with a sensible child counselling ,so that they could protect themselves and the latest dowry issue that contained a super bold sting operation, which eventually made everybody laugh and filled with spirit …
Music is proved as a  cardinal tool, from the theme song (by romanticization of the patriotic feelings, Prasoon Joshi  makes it truly  incredible and close to heart) to the latest “rupaiyya”(the  feelings of a 21st century woman, who seeks no sympathy from society and can tackle her issues ) songs helped greatly to present the idea and the matter of fact that, they are very original and Indian, both…

The next gentleman in my list,is Alex Paul Menon; collector of Sukma (Naxalite affected area), who was recently abducted by Naxalites  as he was visiting a nearby village on a motor bike with a noble intention to help the villagers, without any formal security (although, I am not supporting this casual move and he must take care from the very next time)-represents the unique features of a dashing and audacious administrative officer. His example reminds me of the very dialogue “IAS bankar desh ki sewa karna chahta/ chahti hu .“ Every year the most talented brains of this country cross the most onerous hurdle  to become the most powerful bureaucrats, but how many of them actually carry the courage like Mr.Menon, who even after this mishappenning ,is committed to serve Sukma as earlier and has better plans than before. Recently, when I read his interview excrepts in The Hindu, I was moved by is noble thoughts, that he taught them Naxalites to cook food and realized the deficiencies at their place. I believe we need more officers like him, which have such high standards of righteousness.
My idea is not to degrade any particular profession, I strongly believe that these powerful bureaucrats in considerable numbers can create the major difference, only intentions are needed to serve-be it your country or be it your own pocket, the choice is yours…………
My next pick is once again from the idiot box, but contrastingly creating some milestones which are not so idiotic…. The TV serial which recently completed 1000 episodes(only few have managed to attain this) the only serial which was never indulged into kitchen politics and has retained it social motto still alive right from inception i.e. “Balika Vadhu”. Makers have always tried to put some genuine issues in the remote Rajasthan village, in front of the viewers (most of the real ones still prevalent in village side) .The biggest USP of the show lies in the change of mindset of the orthodox generation as the characters have  witnessed some major transformations till date . The most noticeable one is of dadi-sa, the once conservative lady with her authoritative rule ,has changed herself by 180 degrees and now turned into an adorable and open minded matriarch to family, who is equally caring to the females. The point is no that whether the concept is quixotic or not, the bottom line is that even if this is not a true story, we desperately need some imaginative ideas like this.My best wishes to the makers, I wish that the serial stick to is real purpose and end with the certain dignity.

The aforesaid are not the only examples but the common thread is that they are the most recent ones. The message that I want to deliver is that only intention matter or more precisely “jazba”, if you have that spark to stand against the odds, you will derive your own idea, barring all the social, economical or gender constraints ,just  any common citizen can contribute his bit to the society..
